Functional Materials' proprietary colorant technology has been used to help develop the brand identity for major consumer credit cards industry, including the Gold and Platinum programs for Visa, MasterCard International, American Express, Citibank and other major national and international card issuers. Colours based on Lustre pigments are a major focal point for the company.
In the mid 90's a line of screen printing inks was developed: Slink Solvent-based Inks, Rink Radiation Curable Inks and Wink Water-based Inks. These inks were specifically designed for printing on plastic substrates requiring special functional properties.
Further developments in the field of water-based adhesives, and lamination technology helped establish the company as a technology leader in materials for credit card manufacturing.
Adhesive technology is the current hot topic for the card industry. Materials to be applied in Inline processes as much as in silk screen technology are available for various bonding strength, lamination temperatures and with several additional features, like security elements and special surface properties, like scratch resistant, D2T2 or laser personalisable.
